Teams and sponsors are being sought for the 23rd annual Swing for the Kids Golf Classic to benefit the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth.  The tournament is set for Friday, September 8th at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.

ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO WASHINGTON NATIONALS IN DC

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Washington Nationals 10-5 on Tuesday night in the middle outing of a three-game set at Nationals Park in Washington DC, evening the series at a game apiece.

The Atlanta Braves ended a three-game losing skid with an 11-10 comeback victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night in the opener of a three-game set in Washington DC.

SPLOST COMMITTEE TO HEAR PRESENTATIONS THIS THURSDAY

Floyd County’s 2017 SPLOST Committee will begin hearing presentations this Thursday evening.  The gathering will take place at 5:30 pm in the newly renovated ballroom of The Forum River Center in downtown Rome. ATLANTA STEEPLECHASE IS NO MORE

It appears that the last Atlanta Steeplechase held in April at Kingston Downs was the last Atlanta Steeplechase ever to be held in that location.  The event’s board of directors has confirmed that they have decided to pull the plug on the popular horse race amid their concerns that it has become too much of a financial risk.  The Atlanta Steeplechase, which was considered by many residents of Northwest Georgia (and beyond) as the ultimate lawn party, ran for some 52 years.

COOMER NAMED LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR BY GEORGIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

State Representative Christian Coomer of Cartersville has been named the 2017 Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.  The honor was bestowed upon Representative Coomer last Thursday, June 8th during the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council meeting in St. Simons Island, according to a media release from the state House of Representatives.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS ARE THIS YEAR’S NBA CHAMPS!

The Golden State Warriors are this year’s NBA champions!  The Warriors clinched their second title in the past three years with a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in game five of the NBA Finals on Monday night in Oakland, California.
