BRAVES FALL TO ORIOLES AT SPRING TRAINING

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 in a Spring Training match in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on Tuesday afternoon.  Eric O’Flaherty surrendered the winning run to the Orioles in the ninth, just hours after learning that he had earned a spot in the Atlanta bullpen.

April is rapidly approaching, and with it comes the annual observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month.  A number of events have been planned locally for next month by the Exchange Club of Rome’s Family Resource Center in conjunction with numerous community partners to raise awareness of the issue of child abuse.

GEORGIA TECH TO FACE CSU-BAKERSFIELD TONIGHT IN NIT FINAL FOUR!

Georgia Tech will take on California State University – Bakersfield in the semifinal round of the 2017 National Invitation Tournament this evening at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Tip off is set for 7 pm.  The game will be televised nationally on ESPN; listen to it locally on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Rome’s radio home for Georgia Tech athletics.  Air time for pre-game programming is 6:30 pm from the IMG College network.

AAA:  MODEST MOVEMENT AT THE GAS PUMP LAST WEEK

There was modest movement in the price at the gas pump last week, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which reports that gas prices dipped slightly lower over the week in Georgia.

JAPANESE VISITORS TOUR ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

The City of Rome, Georgia is currently playing host to a group of visitors from Japan.  The visit by 12 middle schoolers and three adults is a part of an exchange program with Kumamoto City.  They arrived on Saturday; each visitor is staying wth a local host family.

COPS FOR KIDS TOURNAMENT SET FOR THIS SATURDAY

The 27th annual Cops for Kids double-elimination softball tournament has been set for this Saturday, April 1st at the Alto Park Softball Complex on Burnett Ferry Road, according to a release from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.  The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Special Olympians at 8:30 am with games scheduled to begin at 9 am and continue into the afternoon hours.

SPRING TRAINING UPDATE:  BRAVES TOP TIGERS AT DISNEY

The Atlanta Braves picked up an 11-3 victory from the Detroit Tigers in a Spring Training outing at Disney on Monday evening.  Atlanta notched 19 hits in the effort.  Dansby Swanson notched three of those hits, along with three runs scored.

ROME-FLOYD SAFE DRIVING EXPO SET FOR APRIL 9TH

The 2017 Rome-Floyd County Safe Driving Expo has been scheduled for Sunday, April 9th.  This year, the event is being held in a new location; activities will take place in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on Cartersville Highway in East Rome from 2 pm until 5 pm.
