UCONN TOPS SYRAC– USE FOR NCAA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Connecticut took an 82-51 victory over Syracuse in the  NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship Game on Tuesday night in Indianapolis.  It was the fourth straight title for the Huskies and the 11th overall for U Conn’s head coach Geno Auriemma.

The Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home’s annual Herb and Plant Sale is scheduled for this weekend at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds, rain or shine.  Hours are 8 am until 4 pm on Saturday, April 9th and 12 pm until 3 pm on Sunday, April 10th.

VILLANOVA EDGES NORTH CAROLINA TO CLAIM FIRST NATIONAL TITLE SINCE ’85

Villanova edged North Carolina 77-74 in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship Game at Houston on Monday night.  The Wildcats took the victory on a 3-pointer from Kris Jenkins at the buzzer; this came just moments after the Tarheels’ Marcus Paige tied the match with a 3-pointer of his own.

BALL CORPORATION TO EXPAND ROME FACILITY, CREATE 40 JOBS

Broomfield, Colorado-based Ball Corporation announced on Monday their intentions to invest multiple millions of dollars to expand production at the Ball Metal Beverage Container facility located at 110 Ball Drive in Rome, according to a release from the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.  The expansion is expected to bring 40 new primary jobs to Floyd County.

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Washington Nationals 4-3 in 10 innings to open the 2016 season at Turner Field on Monday.  A sell out crowd was in attendance for the final Opening Day at “The Ted”.

HAWKS TO HOST SUNS TONIGHT
