FOUL PLAY NOT SUSPECTED IN SHOOTING INCIDENT ON BELLS FERRY ROAD

Floyd County Police are investigating a shooting incident on Bells Ferry Road that left one man in critical condition.  According to a release from the FCPD, no arrest has been made but investigators are actively reviewing the evidence.

The Rome Braves’ series opener in Lexington, Kentucky versus the Legends that was scheduled for Thursday night was postponed due to rain.  It will be made up as part of a double header today at 5:35 pm.

FIRST FRIDAY CONCERTS BEGIN THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Deputy Anna Banks has been tapped to serve as the new instructor for the CHAMPS (Choosing Heatlhy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety) program for the 2016-2017 school year.

PLANS MOVING FORWARD ON RUNWAY EXTENSION AT RUSSELL REGIONAL AIRPORT

Plans are moving forward on the runway extension at Rome’s Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field.  The main runway is being extended to 7,000 feet.  Airport manager Mike Mathews says that work authorizations have been sent to Floyd County officials concerning pre-engineering, environmental assessment and an airport layout plan.  He adds that even though the runway extension is not a project of the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA guidelines must be met in order for the local airport to receive federal funding in the future.

INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFER WINDOW NOW OPEN TO FLOYD COUNTY STUDENTS

The intra-district transfer window is now open for students currently attending a Floyd County school to apply for a transfer to a different school within the school system, according to a Floyd County Schools media release.  The deadline to submit an application for intra-district transfer is Tuesday, June 21st for regular program students and Friday, September 2nd for special needs students.
