‘SOFT OPENING’ FOR VANN CHEROKEE CABIN TO BE A PART OF CAVE SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

The 41st annual Cave Spring Arts Festival is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th at Rolator Park.  More than 100 vendors will display their wares; there will also be food booths and live music.

ROME BRAVES TAKE FINALE OVER CHARLESTON RIVERDOGS

The Rome Braves edged the Charleston Riverdogs 3-2 in the finale of a three game series on Wednesday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium.  The Braves will be in Greensboro, North Carolina tonight to take on the Grasshoppers at 7 pm.

FLOYD BOE EXTENDS SUPERINTENDENT’S CONTRACT, TENTATIVELY APPROVES BUDGET

The Floyd County Board of Education has voted unanimously to extend the contract of Superintendent John Jackson to June 30, 2019, according to this morning’s Rome News-Tribune.  The extension is one year more than the contract originally offered to him at the time he was hired in March.  The measure was approved at the school board’s regular meeting on Tuesday.  Members also tentatively approved the school system’s budget for 2016-2017, which includes a three percent pay raise for all Floyd County Schools employees.  The budget is slated for adoption on June 21st.

LAST STOP GIFT SHOP SEEKS VENDORS FOR YARD SALE TO BENEFIT CLOCKTOWER RESTORATION

The Last Stop Gift Shop in Rome is calling for vendors to participate in the upcoming “Trash to Treasure Yard Sale” on Friday, June 24th at the Rome Civic Center parking lot.  Proceeds from vendor fees will benefit the Rome Clocktower Restoration Fund.

BRAVES WRAP UP ROAD TRIP WITH WIN IN SAN DIEGO

The Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Wednesday in the finale of a three game series in San Diego, ending a six game losing streak.  The win also marked the end of a 12-game losing streak for the Braves at Petco Park.

TELLUS SCIENCE M– USEUM TO HOST ROCK FEST THIS WEEKEND

The Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville will play host to its 26th annual Rock Fest this Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th from 10 am until 5 pm both days.  The event will feature the wares of gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry dealers from around the country.  Attendees will also have opportunties to win door prizes and have their own rocks identified, according to museum marketing director Shelly Redd.
