ROME TO HONOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR WITH ANNUAL FREEDOM MARCH TODAY

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  The MLK Commission of Rome and Northwest Georgia has been honoring the slain civil rights leader all weekend long with a variety of activities, which will culminate with the annual Freedom March in downtown Rome today.  Alvin Jackson, chairman of the Commission, says that those interested in participating in the March are asked to assemble at 11 am at the corner of Broad and First Streets.  The march will begin at 11:30 am and will make its way down to the Rome City Auditorium, where the Martin Luther King Celebration will be held at noon.  The speaker for the celebration will be the Reverend Dr. Timothy McDonald.  A free lunch will be offered at the Rome Civic Center following the celebration. �

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TOMORROW; CITY MANAGER TO DELIVER STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS

The Rome City Commission will meet tomorrow.  The commission normally meets the first and third Monday of every month, but they will meet tomorrow due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday being observed today.  They’ll gather in a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall in downtown Rome.  City Manager John Bennett is expected to deliver his State of the City address tomorrow night.
