ATLANTA BRAVES ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Atlanta Braves were off last night and will begin the month of June with a three game series in Washington DC against the Nationals that will kick off tonight and continue thru the weekend.  Tonight’s game one is set for 7:05 pm at Nationals Park.  Mike Minor is scheduled go to the mound for the Braves, while Stephen Strasburg will get the start for the Nationals.  The game will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s original home for Atlanta Braves baseball.  Air time for the pre-game show is 5:50 pm from the Atlanta Braves radio network.

ROME LOSES GREAT COMMUNITY LEADER

One of Rome’s great civic leaders has passed away.  Wesley Johnson died at a local hospital on Tuesday night at the age of 85.  A celebration of his life is planned for this Friday at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, with interment to follow in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends this evening from 5 pm until 8 pm at the Daniel’s Funeral Home.

ATLANTA BRAVES TAKE SECOND WIN IN A ROW FROM ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves picked up their second win in a row over the St. Louis Cardinals 10-7 last night at Turner Field.

Floyd Medical Center had a $504.6 million impact on the local economy in 2010, according to a report released recently by the Georgia Hospital Association, the state’s largest hospital trade group.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College will hold their 2012 Spring Commencement Ceremony this evening at 7 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome.  The guest speaker will be Mary E. “Lisa” Eason, Assistant Commissioner of Administration for the Technical College System of Georgia.

ROME TEA PARTY’S FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CANDIDATE FORUM SET FOR TONIGHT

The Rome TEA Party will host a Floyd County Commissioners Candidate Forum tonight from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at the Charles Parker Senior Center on the Kingston Highway in Rome.  All County Commission candidates that qualified by last Friday’s deadline have been invited.  The seven candidates that have announced their plans to attend the Forum include Irwin Bagwell, Garry Fricks, Jerry Lee, Larry Maxey, Nathan Roberts, Roger Wade and Rhonda Wallace.

ROME BRAVES DROP TWIN BILL TO KANNAPOLIS INTIMIDATORS IN NC

The Rome Braves dropped both games of a double header to the Kannapolis Intimidators yesterday, 5-4 and 10-5, allowing the Intimidators to complete a three game sweep of the Braves in Kannapolis, North Carolina.  The teams played an early Education Day twin bill to make up a game that was rained out on Tuesday night.

ROCK FEST COMING TO TELLUS M– USEUM

Rock Fest is coming to the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville on June 9th and 10th.  A social media event is being held as a preview to Rock Fest, according to marketing director Joe Schulman.
