RAIN ENDS THE WEEKEND, BEGINS THE WORK WEEK

It was a rainy end to the weekend and a rainy start to the work week for Northwest Georgians.  The National Weather Service reported some .65 inches of rain at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field in the Armuchee community from early Sunday morning thru early this morning.  A 100 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast for today.  Rain is expected to continue for the next couple of days and clear off by the middle of the week.

NEW PROGRAM ADDED TO WLAQ AM 1410 LINE UP

WLAQ AM 1410 is adding a new show to its line up this week.  America In The Morning will air weekdays from 6 am until 7 am.  The early morning news magazine program comes from the CBS radio network and is hosted by Jim Bohannon.  It will include news and features from around the nation and all over the world from CBS News correspondents.  

ROME BRAVES END HOME STAND WITH BIG LOSS TO AUGUSTA GREENJACKETS

The Rome Braves were defeated by the Augusta Greenjackets 19-7 yesterday afternoon in the series closer between the teams at State Mutual Stadium.  

STONEBRIDGE GOLF COURSE NAMED TOP VALUE BY GOLF DIGEST

Rome’s own Stonebridge Golf Course has been included in Golf Digest magazine’s Top Golf, $55 or Less list of courses offering the 10 best deals in golf.  The list was derived from input of editors, writers and readers (via Twitter and Facebook).  The description of Stonebridge is as follows:  “At the base of the Appalachians, the terrain is flat but unforgiving off the tee.  The course features Georgia pines and a 27-acre lake.”

MISS ROME READY FOR MISS GEORGIA PAGEANT

The 2012 Miss Georgia pageant is coming up this weekend, and Rome will be represented by Miss Rome, Abby Killough.  Killough got a little practice for the state pageant with a special program at the Friday meeting of the Rome Exchange Club.  She, along with Miss Rome’s Outstanding Teen Benji Clouda and Miss Conyers Cherry Blossom Outstanding Teen Mackenzie Marable, led Exchangites through Pageant 101.

Now that school’s been out for a little while, are the natives getting restless?  Consider a family trip to the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville.  And be sure to check out the museum’s planetarium while you’re there.  Marketing director Joe Schulman says there are some great shows being presented in the planetarium these days.

ATLANTA BRAVES’ WINNING STREAK ENDED BY TORONTO BLUE JAYS IN SERIES CLOSER

The Atlanta Braves were hoping to sweep their weekend series with the Toronto Blue Jays, but that was not to be as the Braves saw a six game winning streak come to an end with a 12-4 loss to the Blue Jays at Turner Field yesterday.  

GEORGIA’S NET REVENUE COLLECTIONS UP BY 2.1 PERCENT IN MAY

Governor Nathan Deal has announced that Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of May totaled $1.24 billion, an increase of $26 million or 2.1 percent compared to May 2011.  According to a release from the Governor’s office, through 11 months of Fiscal Year 2012, total net revenue collections have eclipsed $14.5 billion year-to-date, which marks an increase of $703 million or 5.1 percent compared to the last fiscal year.
