ROME LEADERSHIP PRAYER BREAKFAST SET FOR THURSDAY

The 2012 Rome Leadership Prayer Breakfast is set for this Thursday, May 3rd from 7:00 until 8:30 am at The Forum in downtown Rome.  The guest speaker will be nationally recognized speaker and author Robert Reccord.  Reccord is the Executive Director for the Council for National Policy (NCP), a non-profit educational foundation based in Washington DC.  He is also the Founder and President of Total Life Impact Ministries.  Reccord is no stranger to Rome, Georgia.  He served as the guest speaker for Rome’s 2010 Friends for Life Banquet.

ATLANTA HAWKS TOP BOSTON CELTICS IN GAME ONE OF FIRST ROUND OF NBA PLAYOFFS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Boston Celtics 83-74 last night at the Philips Arena in game one of the Eastern Conference playoffs.  The best-of-seven series will continue tomorrow night in Atlanta.  Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.

‘STREETS ALIVE’ BLOCK PARTY TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH CLOCKTOWER CLASSIC

The Clocktower Classic handcycling event is also going on this weekend.  Downtown Rome will be the site of a flurry of activities with the Streets Alive block party that will be held in conjunction with the downtown criterium portion of the Clocktower Classic.  Downtown Development Authority Director Ann Arnold invites the public to come join the fun from 2 pm until 5 pm.  The Rome Roller Girls will be there, along with YMCA Zumba, Skatelife, the Dixie Stompers and more.

COLLINS ANNOUNCES BID FOR GOP NOMINATION FOR STATE SENATE DISTRICT 52

Another person has announced his intentions to run for the GOP nomination for State Senate District 52.  Hayden Collins of Cartersville announced his candidacy over the weekend.  Collins is presently a captain for the Georgia Department of Defense.  He works full-time as a resource efficiency manager for the US Marine Corps base in Albany.  He also has contracts with the military at Fort Benning, the US Navy submarine base in Camden County and other bases worldwide.

ATLANTA BRAVES TOP PITTSBURGH PIRATES AT ‘THE TED’; TIM HUDSON VICTORIOUS IN RETURN TO THE MOUND

The Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 yesterday at Turner Field.  It was a triumphant return to the mound for Tim Hudson, who picked up the win for the Braves in his first day back “at the office” after rehabbing from an offseason back surgery.  Craig Kimbrel got the save.

ALLROADS MUSIC FESTIVAL TO ENTERTAIN ROMANS ALL DAY ON SATURDAY

Make your plans now to attend the AllRoads Music Festival tomorrow (Saturday, April 28th) at Heritage Park in downtown Rome.  The all-day music festival will benefit the Rome Area Council for the Arts.  It will get underway at 11 am and continue thru 11 pm.

ONE YEAR SINCE APRIL 27, 2011 STORMS AND TORNADOES

And today marks the one year anniversary of the storms and tornadoes that hit the Southeast on April 27, 2011, leaving substantial damage in its wake.  Many Rome and Floyd County residents were even left without homes as a result of the storms.
