ATLANTA BRAVES SWEPT BY CINCINNATI REDS IN CINCY

The Atlanta Braves lost for the fourth night in a row to the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 last night in Cincinnati, allowing the Reds to sweep the Braves in the four game series between the teams.  That marks the first time that the Braves have lost four in a row since the beginning of the season.

Congratulations to Shorter University head softball coach Al Thomas and his Lady Hawks, who are the winners of the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship!!  The Lady Hawks captured the title with a 1-0 win over Oklahoma City in the championship game yesterday in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets 3-1 yesterday afternoon in a Business Person’s Special game at State Mutual Stadium to allow the Braves to complete a three game sweep of the Greenjackets.

In news from the 2012 NAIA Champion Shorter Lady Hawks softball team, senior Charlsie Broome and sophomore Jackie Castaneda have been named first team All-Americans by the NAIA, according to a release issued yesterday by the NAIA.  Also, Broome was featured on ESPN on Wednesday night!  Her clutch ninth-inning snag of a potential go-ahead home run from Oklahoma City’s LeeAnn Lopez was featured as the number two play on ESPN SportsCenter’s famous Top 10 Plays countdown.

UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN METRO ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler has announced that the preliminary unemployment rate for metro Rome declined to 10.1 percent in April to its lowest level since March 2009, when it was also 10.1 percent.  Metro Rome’s jobless rate stood at 10.3 percent in March of this year and at 10.2 percent in April 2011.

Shorter University’s Lady Hawks softball team has captured the school’s first ever NAIA softball national championship!  The 10th ranked Lady Hawks beat 3rd ranked Oklahoma City 1-0 in the title game of the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama yesterday.
