TUCK CONTINUES INCREDIBLE JOURNEY

Amos Tuck, program coordinator for the Coosa River Basin Initiative is in the midst of an incredible journey.  He left on August 25th on a paddle trip that began in the Cohutta Wilderness in North Georgia and, after a 200 mile journey, will end at Weiss Lake in Alabama.  The 21-day journey is covering the Conasauga, Oostanaula and Coosa Rivers.

The Rome Braves wrapped up the 2012 regular season in victorious fashion with a 9-1 Labor Day win over the Lexington Legends in Lexington, Kentucky yesterday.  

GEORGIA TECH FALLS TO VIRGINIA TECH IN OT IN SEASON OPENER

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets opened their 2012 football season with a loss to 16th ranked Virginia Tech 20-17 in over time last night in Blacksburg, Virginia.  The Jackets were stopped short of a come back on a 17-yard field goal from the Hokies’ Cody Journell.  

ATLANTA FALCONS SET TO KICK OFF THE REGULAR SEASON ON SUNDAY; LISTEN ON 95.7 FM THE RIDGE

Gonna be a busy September at the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville.  Marketing Director Joe Schulman says that the calendar of events for the month includes a lecture on Mineral Photography this Friday, September 7th and the next Lunch and Learn about the Mineral History of Graves Mountain on September 26th.  

MEDLIN SHINES IN ATLANTA BRAVES’ LABOR DAY WIN OVER COLORADO ROCKIES AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves took a 6-1 Labor Day victory from the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a four game series yesterday at Turner Field.  Kris Medlin got the win after notching a second complete game and recording a season-high 12 strike outs.  The only run he allowed, which ended his scoreless streak, was unearned.  The Braves picked up six runs in the first two innings of the game with just two hits.

Tune in for the first Northwest Georgia High School Football Game of the Week of 2012 on 95.7 FM The Ridge this Friday as the Armuchee Indians travel to Adairsville to take on the Tigers.  Kick off is set for 7:30 pm.  (A note to Rome Braves fans:  Friday night’s game two of the South Atlantic League Southern Division playoffs at Asheville will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ.)

Are you ready for some barbecue?  The Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome will be serving it up at their 46th annual Labor Day Barbecue at the Rome Civic Center today from 10 am until 2 pm or until food runs out.
