MINOR MASTERFUL IN ATLANTA BRAVES’ VICTORY OVER COLORADO ROCKIES AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Colorado Rockies 1-0 in game three of a four game series last night at Turner Field.  Braves starter Mike Minor got the win after allowing just one hit in seven innings of work.  Craig Kimbrel got the first multi-inning save of his career last night.  
The only run in last night’s game came for the Braves in the bottom of the fourth when Chipper Jones scored on a throwing error by Rockies shortstop Josh Rutledge.  

COLLEGE FOOTBALL ON THE RADIO THIS SATURDAY EVENING

Shorter University’s football Hawks will play their second game of the season this Saturday evening in Newberry, South Carolina against Newberry.  Kick off is set for 6:30 pm.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.

BROAD STREET BLOCK PARTY TO SERVE AS FINAL FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT FOR 2012

Get ready to dance in the street at the final First Friday concert for 2012 this Friday night.  This month’s concert is billed as the “Broad Street Block Party” and will be held in the 200 block of Broad Street from 6 pm until 11 pm.  It will feature the music of three different bands – Jerry On The Moon, Curiosity Shoppe Band and Kneckdown.

ROME BRAVES READY TO ‘WHITE OUT’ ASHEVILLE TOURISTS IN GAME ONE OF SALLY LEAGUE SOUTHERN DIVISION PLAYOFFS TONIGHT

It’s a big night for the Rome Braves. For the first time since 2006, they’re playoff bound! The Braves will host the Asheville Tourists in game one of the best-of-three South Atlantic League Southern Division playoffs tonight at 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium.  

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS TO TAKE THE FIELD TOMORROW NIGHT

Tune in for the very first Northwest Georgia High School Football Game of the Week for 2012 on 95.7 FM The Ridge tomorrow night as the Armuchee Indians travel to Adairsville to take on the Tigers.  Matt Davis and Ian Griffin will bring you the play by play story of the game.  They’ll go on air with the pre-game at 7:15 pm.  Kick off is set for 7:30 pm.  The game will also be aired online at www.theridge957.com.  Stay tuned after the game for the High School Football Scoreboard Show brought to you by Rome Orthopaedic Clinic.  (Programming reminder for Rome Braves fans:  tomorrow night’s game two of the South Atlantic League Southern Division playoffs at Asheville will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ.)

LOCAL RESIDENT HAPPY TO BE IN ATTENDANCE AT DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

Local resident Wendy Davis is in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Democratic National Convention.  She says President Barack Obama is expected to accept his party’s nomination for re-election on Thursday night.
Davis has been chosen to serve on the Democratic National Committee and will be sworn in on Friday.  She says she’s looking forward to the networking opportunities provided to her at the convention.

GNTC OBSERVES LITERACY MONTH IN SEPTEMBER

September is Literacy Month.  September 8th is International Literacy Day.  Congress and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal have issued resolutions in support of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week for September 10th thru 16th, 2012.  Georgia Northwestern Technical College, the largest Adult Education program provider in northwest Georgia, will emphasize its role in raising the level of educational attainment in the adult population this month, according to a GNTC release.

ATLANTA BRAVES BLANKED BY COLORADO ROCKIES AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves were shut out by the Colorado Rockies 6-0 in game two of a four game series last night at Turner Field.  Braves starter Tommy Hanson took the loss; he gave up five hits and two runs in five and two-third innings of work, including solo home runs to Carlos Gonzalez and Jordan Pacheco.
