STONEBRIDGE GOLF CLUB HONORED TO BE INCLUDED IN GOLF DIGEST’S TOP GOLF, $55 OR LESS

Rome’s Stonebridge Golf Course received quite an honor recently as they were included in Golf Digest magazine’s list of Top Golf, $55 or Less.  The list is featured in the July edition of Golf Digest.  

ROME TEA PARTY TO HOST TEA PARTY T-SPLOST TOWN HALL

The Rome Tea Party seeks to inform the public about the T-SPLOST referendum that is up for a vote in the July 31st primary election and will do so with their Tea Party T-SPLOST Town Hall meeting set for this Saturday, June 30th from 10 am until noon at Burk Farms in Armuchee.  A number of speaker panelists have been lined up for the meeting who are knowledgeable on the T-SPLOST referendum.  That list includes:  State Representative Katie Dempsey, former Floyd County Commission Chairman Eddie Lumsden, Georgia Public Policy Foundation Vice-President Benita Dodd and Dalton, Georgia Mayor David Pennington.  A barbecue lunch will follow the Town Hall meeting. 

BERRY COLLEGE’S NEW FOOTBALL COACH TO GUEST ON SPORTS TALK SATURDAY

Tune in for this Saturday’s edition of Sports Talk Saturday with Matt D and Scott on WLAQ AM 1410.  Their special guest will be Tony Kunczewski, Berry College’s first ever football coach.  Kunczewski took the job back in April.  Football is slated to begin at Berry in fall 2013. 

ATLANTA BRAVES READY FOR LONG HOME STAND; HEYWARD NAMED NL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Atlanta Braves picked up an 8-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first game of a three game series between the teams (and of a 10-game home stand) last night at Turner Field. 

FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION AT RIDGE FERRY PARK TO BE OF A MUSICAL NATURE

The Fourth of July is just one week from today.  And so is Rome and Floyd County’s annual 4th of July Celebration at Ridge Ferry Park.  This year, the celebration will feature traditional patriotic music from Eighth Regiment Band of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry and the Rome Symphony Orchestra.

ROME CITY MANAGER JOHN BENNETT INDUCTED INTO MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT HALL OF FAME

The Georgia Municipal Association inducted Rome City Manager John Bennett into the Municipal Government Hall of Fame on Monday at the GMA’s annual convention in Savannah.  According to a GMA media release, the Hall of Fame honors municipal officials who exemplify the best in public service, and who, throughout their careers, have made extraordinary contributions to their communities and Georgia’s cities. 

ROME BRAVES TAKE NINTH-INNING VICTORY FROM GREENVILLE DRIVE AT SMS

The Rome Braves took an exciting 3-2 victory from the Greenville Drive last at State Mutual Stadium.  A two-out RBI single by Cory Brownsten brought home the winning run for the Braves in the bottom of the ninth. 

CANCER NAVIGATORS SEEKING A FEW GOOD VOLUNTEERS

Calling all would-be volunteers!!!  Cancer Navigators is seeking a few good men and women to help with their mission of assisting cancer patients with their journey from diagnosis thru treatment.  The organization will hold a meet and greet gathering for existing and prospective volunteers this evening from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm in the third floor conference room at the Harbin Clinic’s Tony E. Warren MD Cancer Center on Second Avenue in Rome.
