RABIES A PROBLEM AGAIN IN 2012 IN FLOYD COUNTY; PET OWNERS URGED TO VACCINATE!

Rabies is on the rise again in Floyd County.  Floyd County Health Department Environmental Health Manager Mike Pitts said last week that have been three confirmed cases of animal rabies in Floyd County so far in 2012, including one cat and two racoons, more than any other Northwest Georgia county.  Floyd led the state last year with 15 confirmed cases.

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, the Braves reached an agreement yesterday to acquire pitcher Ryan Dempster from the Chicago Cubs.  The trade must be accepted by Dempster before it can be made official.

JULY 31ST PRIMARY HAS CANDIDATES CAMPAIGNING

The July 31st primary election is now a week and a day away, and early voting continues for said election.  Voters are weighing in on the T-SPLOST referendum, along with a number of state and local races.  Political consultant Adam Clemons, owner of ABC Design political consulting firm, says that while some candidates in the November general election are uncontested in the July 31st primary, they’re already campaigning.

CRBI RELEASES E COLI DATA FOR ETOWAH RIVER

The Coosa River Basin Initiative has released e-coli numbers for July 19, 2012 at the Etowah River.  The geometric mean of the organization’s three testing sites was 36.3 colony forming units of bacteria per 100 milliliters, below the US Environmental Protection Agency’s safe level of 126 cfu/100 ml.

ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO MIAMI MARLINS IN SERIES OPENER IN FLORIDA

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Miami Marlins 2-1 last night in the series opener between the teams at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida.  Mike Minor was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on six hits in seven innings of work.

ANNUAL NIGHT AT THE M– USEUM AT TELLUS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

The Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum is getting ready for its annual Night at the Museum.  The event is set for Saturday, August 4th from 6 pm until 10 pm.  Museum marketing director Joe Schulman says that the focus of the event will be on science and science fiction and how they relate.  Scientists, authors and adventurers, real and fictional, will mingle with guests at the event.  Children will get autograph books to collect the autographs of these characters.

ROME BRAVES FALL TO SAVANNAH SAND GNATS IN SUNDAY OUTING, RESULTING IN SERIES SPLIT

The Rome Braves lost to the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-1 in the series closer between the teams yesterday afternoon in Savannah.  Fabian Williamson was tagged with the loss for Rome, while Domingo Tapia got the win for Savannah.
