STONEBRIDGE GOLF COURSE NAMED TOP VALUE BY GOLF DIGEST

Rome’s own Stonebridge Golf Course has been included in Golf Digest magazine’s Top Golf, $55 or Less list of courses offering the 10 best deals in golf.  The list was derived from input of editors, writers and readers (via Twitter and Facebook).  The description of Stonebridge is as follows:  “At the base of the Appalachians, the terrain is flat but unforgiving off the tee.  The course features Georgia pines and a 27-acre lake.”

A large gathering convened at the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville on Tuesday to witness the Venus Transit.  The planet Venus could be viewed as a dot on the sun.  Marketing director Joe Schulman says that it won’t happen again for another 105 years.

ROME BRAVES FALL TO GREENVILLE DRIVE IN SERIES CLOSER; CHIPPER JONES MAY REHAB IN ROME THIS WEEKEND

The Rome Braves lost to the Greenville Drive 5-2 yesterday afternoon in the teams’ series closer at State Mutual Stadium.  The Braves took two out of three games from the Drive in that series.

GEORGIA’S NET REVENUE COLLECTIONS UP BY 2.1 PERCENT IN MAY

Governor Nathan Deal has announced that Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of May totaled $1.24 billion, an increase of $26 million or 2.1 percent compared to May 2011.  According to a release from the Governor’s office, through 11 months of Fiscal Year 2012, total net revenue collections have eclipsed $14.5 billion year-to-date, which marks an increase of $703 million or 5.1 percent compared to the last fiscal year.

DUCKS UNLIMITED TO HOLD 2012 GREENWING DAY ON SATURDAY

The Rome chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold their 2012 Greenwing Day tomorrow (Saturday, June 9th) at Taylor/OTR Farm at 495 Minshew Road in Shannon.  Registration will begin at 9 am, with activities to begin at 9:30 am.  Kerry Brown with Ducks Unlimited says this is his favorite event of the year.

FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOLS RECEIVES GEORGIA POWER GRANT FOR ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM

The Floyd County Schools have received a $10,000 grant from the Georgia Power Foundation to go towards an anti-bullying program within the school system, according to a Floyd County Schools media release.  Ann Kaiser, manager of the northwest region for Georgia Power, presented the grant to Floyd County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lynn Plunkett.

ATLANTA BRAVES TOP MIAMI MARLINS FOR THE SECOND NIGHT IN A ROW IN MIAMI

The Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 8-2 last night in the series closer between the teams in Miami, Florida, allowing the Braves to complete a three game sweep of the Marlins.
