CLASSES BEGIN TODAY FOR DARLINGTON SCHOOL

Today is the first day of school for Darlington School.  Ann Paige Wilson, director of stewardship for Darlington School, looks for great enrollment at the school this year.  Wilson says that Darlington has a diverse student body, with students from some 38 countries and 20-25 different states.

FIRE DESTROYS ADAIRSVILLE RESTAURANT

An explosion yesterday evening led to the destruction of the Sage Cottage restaurant in Adairsville.  A gas leak could be what caused the fire.  An investigation continues.  No one was injured.

ATLANTA FALCONS STILL IN SEARCH OF FIRST NFL PRE-SEASON WIN FOR 2012

The Atlanta Falcons are still in search of their first pre-season win of 2012.  They’ll be on the road to take on the Miami Dolphins in their third NFL pre-season game of the year this Friday night.

ROME CELEBRITY DANCE CHALLENGE, RIVER REVERLY HIGHLIGHT BUSY WEEKEND IN ROME

It was a busy weekend in Rome and Floyd County, for sure.  One of the main events of the weekend was the second annual Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge on Saturday night at the Rome City Auditorium.  The event raised over $68,000 for the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia.  Local orthodontist Dr. Joe Vargo and his partner Yensen Sierra Lambert won the People’s Choice Award, while Dr. Joe Burch with the Rome Radiology Group and partner Kathy Baird won the Judge’s Choice Award.

ROME BRAVES’ SERIES CLOSER WITH LEXINGTON LEGENDS POSTPONED DUE TO WET GROUNDS AT SMS

The Rome Braves’ series closer with the Lexington Legends scheduled for yesterday evening has been postponed due to wet grounds.  It will be made up at a later date to be determined.  According to the Braves, anyone with tickets to the game may exchange them for any home game remaining in the season or for a home playoff game.

SHORTER’S COACH JONES SAYS SURPRISES IN STORE FOR THIS YEAR’S HAWKS

The curtain will soon rise on the 2012 season for Shorter University’s football Hawks.  The team has been practicing for a couple weeks now, and there have been some pleasant surprises, as Head Coach Phil Jones told the voice of the Hawks, 95.7 FM The Ridge’s Jim Bojo.  Jones says that this year’s freshman are pretty impressive and that everyone appears to be in great shape.

ROME CELEBRITY DANCE CHALLENGE TO HIT THE STAGE TOMORROW NIGHT

The second annual Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge will be held tomorrow night (Saturday, August 18th) at 7 pm at the Rome City Auditorium.  Proceeds will benefit the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia. SAC Executive Director Kim Davis says that preparation for the Dance Challenge is coming along nicely.  The show will be preceded by a pre-event party at the DeSoto Theatre which begins at 5 pm.
