ROME TEA PARTY TO HOST CHARTER SCHOOL AMENDMENT TOWN HALL ON THURSDAY NIGHT

The Rome TEA Party will host a Charter School Amendment Town Hall this Thursday, October 25th from 6:30 pm until 8 pm at Grace Bible Church, located at 614 Old Dalton Road in Rome.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL UPDATE; SHORTER UNIVERSITY BACK ON TV THIS THURSDAY NIGHT (AND, OF COURSE, ON THE RADIO)

Shorter University suffered a tough loss to 16th ranked West Alabama 49-7 in Gulf South Conference action this past Saturday in Livingston, Alabama.  The Hawks will continue their tough Gulf South schedule with a match against Valdosta State this Thursday night at 7:30 pm at Barron Stadium in Rome.  Like Saturday’s game, Thursday night’s game will be televised.  It will be the GSC-TV LIVE Football Game of the Week and will air on Comcast Cable channel 35 or in high definition (where available) on Comcast Cable channel 805 in the Rome and Atlanta areas.  ESPN will also provide live coverage on ESPN3.  The game has been designated as “Championship Thursday” as Shorter will honor its teams that won national and conference championships during the 2011-2012 athletic season.

MLB POST SEASON UPDATE

In MLB playoff news, the San Francisco Giants picked up their second straight victory from the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 last night in game six of the National League Championship Series to tie up that series 3-3 and force it into a game seven.  San Francisco’s AT&T Park will be the site of the decisive series finale tonight at 8 pm.  The game will be televised on FOX.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TONIGHT

The Rome City Commission is scheduled to meet in regular session this evening.  They’ll gather for a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  Take a look at commissioners’ agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

It was a busy day in NFL football yesterday, but the Atlanta Falcons were off due to a scheduled bye week.  The 6-0 Falcons will return to action this coming Sunday, October 28th in Philadelphia against the Eagles.

And we have sad news to report to you on WLAQ/The Ridge Sports this morning.  JB Smith, the voice of the Rome Braves, has passed away.  He died in his sleep over the weekend.
