TELLUS M– USEUM RECEIVES $25,000 CONTRIBUTION FROM AT&T GEORGIA

The Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum has announced that it is getting a $25,000 contribution from AT&T Georgia for educational programs for the youth of Northwest Georgia and metro Atlanta.  Tellus educational offerings promote the development of students and encourage them to pursue careers in science, math and engineering.

ATLANTA HAWKS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT AT HOME TO PHOENIX SUNS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks dropped their third straight at home to the Phoenix Suns 99-90 at the Philips Arena last night.  The loss leaves the Hawks with an 8-4 record at home and a 16-10 record overall so far for the 2011-2012 season.  The Hawks continue their current homestand with a match against the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Philips.

FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH

February is National Pet Dental Health Month.  Dr. Dan Pate with the West Rome Animal Clinic says that an animal’s dental health is just as important to their overall health as it is to humans.  

MARKER TO BE DEDICATED AT MYRTLE HILL CEMETERY ON SATURDAY

Non-profit preservation group MH Mitchell, Inc. will dedicate a new marker in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery this Saturday, February 11th at 11 am.  According to a release from the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, the marker will be located in the Historic Civil War section of the cemetery and will stand at the grave of Colonel George Washington Lee and explain his significance.  Lee saved the State Archives of Georgia just days after the beginning of Sherman’s March to the Sea.  

ATLANTA BRAVES CARAVAN VISITS ROME, ROME BRAVES HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL SET FOR MARCH 3RD

The Atlanta Braves Caravan paid a visit to Rome yesterday and announced the first ever Rome Braves High School Invitational to be played at State Mutual Stadium on Saturday, March 3rd.  The Braves visitors included Brian McCann, Dan Uggla and Chipper Jones.  They were joined by manager Fredi Gonzalez and Executive Vice President and General Manager Frank Wren.  Baseball teams from Model, Pepperell, Armuchee and Coosa High Schools were also in attendance.

We’ll have Berry College men’s basketball tomorrow night on WLAQ AM 1410 and www.wlaq1410.com as the Vikings travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on Maryville College at 7:30 pm.  WLAQ AM 1410 will also provide coverage this Saturday as the Vikings and Lady Vikings host LaGrange at the Cage Center on the Berry College campus.  Tip off is set for 2 pm for the women and 4 pm for the men.  As with all our local sporting events, the games will be aired online at www.wlaq1410.com.
