ATLANTA FALCONS HOPE TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN NFL WEEK THREE AT SAN DIEGO THIS SUNDAY

It’s been a good start to the 2012 season for the Atlanta Falcons, who are now 2-0 following a 27-21 victory over the Denver Broncos in Monday Night Football in the NFL’s week two.  They hope to remain undefeated as they head into their third week of play on the road against the San Diego Chargers.  The game is set for 4:05 pm on Sunday and will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s radio home for Atlanta Falcons football.

CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY FROM THE RFD

This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week.  Daniel Carpenter with the Rome Fire Department says that state law requires children to be in a rear-facing car seat for at least the first year of life.  He indicates that he agrees with pediatricians’ recommendation to keep that child rear-facing as long as necessary.

ROCKMART MUSIC FESTIVAL TO BENEFIT AREA CANCER PATIENTS

Cancer Navigators will benefit from a two-day music festival in Rockmart later this month named in honor of a man who battled cancer all his life.  The Brent Hilburn Music Festival is set for Friday, September 28th and Saturday, September 29th at The Rock Campground and Park, located at 130 Forsyth Road in Rockmart.  The festival will be highlighted by Gospel and Christian acts on Friday night and a variety of music from country to rock to blues on Saturday.

RAIN PELTS ROME AND NWGA, MORE ON THE WAY

The heavens have opened up and pelted rain over Rome and Northwest Georgia, and rain remains in the forecast thru today.  The National Weather Service reported nearly an inch of rain (.90 inches) at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field in the Armuchee community from yesterday afternoon thru early this morning, with the majority of that rain falling between 6-8 pm.  A 100 percent chance of showers is in the forecast for today, with new rainfall amounts of between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.  Highs will be in the upper 70s.  Sunshine will return tomorrow.

BROCK NAMED CHAIR OF THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Local civic leader Harry Brock has been named chairman of the Heart of the Community Foundation Board of Governors for 2012-2013.  Redmond Regional Medical Center and the Heart of the Community Foundation Inc. sponsor the annual “Heart of the Community Awards” recognition program to honor local citizens for their volunteer service to our community.  Award recipients are honored at a black tie gala, “An Affair of the Heart”.  The 27th annual event is set for Saturday, February 9th , 2013 at the Forum in downtown Rome, according to a Heart of the Community media release.

ATLANTA BRAVES EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO FOUR WITH VICTORY OVER MIAMI MARLINS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 in the opener of a three game series in Miami last night.  It was the Braves’ fourth consecutive victory.  Tim Hudson got the win in last night’s game; he pitched five innings, giving up four runs and ten hits.  Craig Kimbrel got the save.
