ROME CELEBRITY DANCE CHALLENGE TO HIT THE STAGE TOMORROW NIGHT

The second annual Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge will be held tomorrow night (Saturday, August 18th) at 7 pm at the Rome City Auditorium.  Proceeds will benefit the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia. SAC Executive Director Kim Davis says that preparation for the Dance Challenge is coming along nicely.  The show will be preceded by a pre-event party at the DeSoto Theatre which begins at 5 pm.  

MODEL JOHNSON SCHOOLS FOUNDATION TO HOLD ANNUAL AUCTION AND SPAGHETTI DINNER TOMORROW EVENING

The Model Johnson Schools Foundation will hold their annual auction and spaghetti dinner tomorrow evening, Saturday, August 18th, in the Model Middle School Cafeteria.  Dinner will be served from 5 until 6:30 pm and will include spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and a drink for $5 per person.  The live auction will begin at 7 pm with a raffle to be held during the auction.  Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20.  Terry Brown with the Model Johnson Schools Foundation says that money raised from tomorrow night’s auction and spaghetti dinner will go towards schools in the Model/Johnson district.  

ROME BRAVES POST SHUT OUT WIN OVER LEXINGTON LEGENDS IN SERIES OPENER AT SMS

The Rome Braves posted a 5-0 shut out win over the Lexington Legends last night in the opener of a four game series between the teams at State Mutual Stadium.  
With their win last night, the Braves increase their lead in the South Atlantic League’s Southern Division to four and a half games; they have a 33-19 record so far for the second half of the 2012 season.  The Braves will face the Legends again tonight at 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Rome Braves radio voice JB Smith will go on the air with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.  

ATLANTA FALCONS FALL TO CINCINNATI BENGALS IN NFL PRE-SEASON ACTION AT THE GEORGIA DOME

The Atlanta Falcons fell to the Cincinnati Bengals 24-19 last night in NFL pre-season action at the Georgia Dome.  The Falcons are now 0-2 and in search of their first pre-season win of the year.  They’ll hit the road for their next pre-season game, which is set for next Friday night, August 24th in Miami against the Dolphins.

CRBI DIRECTOR ‘REVVED UP’ ABOUT RIVER REVELRY

The Coosa River Basin Initiative will hold their annual River Revelry:  A Biodiversity Bash tomorrow night from 6 pm until 11 pm at Heritage Park.  CRBI Executive Director Joe Cook says he’s ‘revved up’ for River Revelry.

Also going on this Saturday (tomorrow) – the Stonebridge Golf Club will hold their Customer Appreciation Day from 10 am until 3 pm.  The Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower Road Race to raise money for the Exchange Club Family Resource Center is also tomorrow.  The race will begin at 8 am on Second Avenue in front of Barron Stadium and will end on top of the levee.  And the 11th annual Health Initiative for Men (sponsored by 100 Black Men of Rome) will be held from 8 am until noon at the Floyd County Health Department at 16 East 12th Street in Rome.  

MAGIC NIGHT FOR JONES, MEDLIN AS ATLANTA BRAVES SHUT OUT SAN DIEGO PADRES IN SERIES CLOSER AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves picked up an exciting 6-0 shut out win over the San Diego Padres in the closer of a four game series between the teams at Turner Field last night.  It was Chipper Jones bobble head doll night, and Jones certainly wowed fans with a pair of home runs.  It was his 40th career multihomer game.  
Jones hit a two-run shot in his first at-bat of the evening in the bottom of the first inning.  He hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to notch his 2,700th career hit.

SHORTER’S COACH JONES ‘FEELING GOOD’ ABOUT UPCOMING FOOTBALL SEASON

The 2012 season will kick off in less than two weeks for Shorter University’s football team.  The Hawks are hard at work in preparation for the season.  Head Coach Phil Jones told the voice of the Hawks, 95.7 FM The Ridge’s Jim Bojo, that he feels good about the upcoming season.
