In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Miami Heat 89-86 last night in Miami, Florida.  The Hawks continue their current road trip with a stop in Detroit, Michigan to take on the Pistons tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.

In college baseball, Shorter University’s Hawks lost to Milligan 9-7 yesterday at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.  The Hawks will get back into action with a three game series against Truett McConnell over the weekend.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY’S MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAMS LEARN FIRST ROUND DRAWS FOR NAIA TOURNEY

Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have learned their first round opponents for the 2012 NAIA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.  Both tournaments are scheduled to begin next Wednesday, March 14th and continue thru the championship round on Tuesday, March 20th.  The men will play in Kansas City, Missouri; the women will play in Frankfort, Kentucky for the first time after more than 20 years in Jackson, Tennessee.

ATLANTA BRAVES LOSE (AGAIN) TO DETROIT TIGERS IN SPRING TRAING ACTION

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Detroit Tigers 5-1 in Spring Training action in Lakeland, Florida yesterday.  The Tigers are 5-0 so far in Grapefruit League action; three of those wins have come against the Braves.  The Braves will travel to Sarasota to take on the Baltimore Orioles today.  First pitch is set for 1:05 pm.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: BERRY SPLITS FINAL DAY AT NTC CLASSIC, SHORTER SWEEPS UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA SPRING FLING

Berry College’s softball team settled for a split in the final day of the NTC Classic in Clermont, Florida yesterday.  The Lady Vikings lost to John Carroll 2-0, then took a 2-1 victory from Ohio Northern.  After spending an extensive time on the road to start the 2012 season, the Lady Vikes will play their first home games of the year next Wednesday as they host Truett McConnell in a double header at South Ford Field on the Berry College campus.

SHOULD REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ANSWER QUESTIONS RELATED TO LIMBAUGH RANT?

Should candidates in the race for the Republican presidential nomination answer questions related to the recent rant of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh towards a Georgetown student in relation to her stance on insurance coverage on birth control?  Adam Clemons, the owner of Rome-based political consulting firm ABC Design and a member of Georgia’s state GOP committee, says he believes that the candidates should address those questions only if they’re relevant.
