GRAVES VOTES TO PREVENT TAX HIKE

US Congressman Tom Graves has voted in favor of HR 8, the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012, which prevents taxes from going up on all Americans.  Current tax rates are set to expire on December 31, 2012, resulting in the largest tax hike in American history, according to Graves.  In an interview on WLAQ AM 1410’s Good Morning Rome on Wednesday, he said this measure would keep that from happening.

FINAL TOTALS FOR TUESDAY PRIMARY STILL NOT COMPLETE

Totals for Tuesday’s primary election are not final in Floyd County.  Voting machine failure at the Alto Park precinct is what led to the hold up.  Some 85 votes now hang in the balance.  Floyd County Elections officials expect to have the results by tomorrow.

ATLANTA BRAVES’ WINNING STREAK HALTED BY MIAMI MARLINS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves’ winning streak came to an end yesterday as they lost to the Miami Marlins 4-2 last night in game three of a four game series between the teams at Turner Field.  Ben Sheets was tagged with the loss; it was his first loss since becoming an Atlanta Brave.

ROME CITY SCHOOLS BACK IN SESSION TODAY

Today is the first day of school for the Rome City School System.  Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Gayland Cooper will be a guest on WLAQ AM 1410’s Good Morning Rome this Friday at 7:50 am.

COUNTRY SONGWRITER, CEDARTOWN NATIVE SAM HUNT TO HEADLINE AUGUST FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT

The August First Friday concert will take the stage at Bridgepoint Plaza tomorrow night at 7 pm.  This month’s show will feature the music of Cedartown native Sam Hunt, who has been working as a songwriter in Nashville.  Hunt wrote a song performed by Kenny Chesney called Come Over that’s currently number two on the country charts, according to Amanda Carter with the Rome Downtown Development Authority.

ROME BRAVES TAKE 10TH INNING VICTORY FROM AUGUSTA GREENJACKETS AT SMS

Following a rain delay of about an hour and a half, the Rome Braves posted a 7-6 win over the Augusta Greenjackets in 10 innings last night at State Mutual Stadium.  It was the Braves’ 10th win in a row.

The Rome Braves picked up an exciting 6-5 win over the Augusta Greenjackets last night at State Mutual Stadium.  The victory came down to the very last inning.
