HARBIN PRESIDENT AND CEO PLEASED WITH RECENT GROWTH

The Harbin Clinic has experienced considerable growth in recent years.  Its Tony E. Warren MD Cancer Center officially opened one year and three months ago today, and numerous Harbin offices have popped all over the Northwest Georgia region in the last few years.  President and CEO Dr. Ken Davis says he is particularly proud of the success of the cancer center.  He says that the Harbin Clinic has constructed or renovated almost 600,000 square feet over the last six or seven years and is taking a brief respite from construction now.  

ROME BRAVES TO KICK OFF EIGHT GAME HOME STAND AT SMS TONIGHT!!

The Rome Braves took a night off last night and will return to action tonight with an eight game home stand that will continue thru next Tuesday and will include four games each with the West Virginia Power and the Asheville Tourists.  Tonight’s game one against the Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is set for 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium.  It will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Rome Braves radio voice JB Smith will go on the air with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.

FIELDER WINS HOME RUN DERBY

In other MLB All Star news, Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers won the State Farm Home Run Derby last night in Kansas City.  It was Fielder’s second Home Run Derby win; his first was in 2009 in St. Louis.

EARLY VOTING FOR JULY 31ST PRIMARY BEGINS TODAY

Early voting begins today for the July 31st primary election.  A number of local races and Georgia General Assembly posts will be up for a vote, along with the proposed TSPLOST referendum.  Voters in Floyd County can cast their ballots Monday thru Friday from 8 am until 5 pm at the Floyd County Elections Office inside the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome thru July 27th.  A special Saturday voting day has been set for July 21st from 9 am until 4 pm.  An additional early voting site will be open at the Rome Civic Center from July 23rd thru 26th.  

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TODAY; COMMISSIONERS TO GET EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM UPDATE

The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session today.  They’ll gather for a caucus session at noon, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 2 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  

UGGLA, KIMBRELL, JONES, BOURN TO REPRESENT ATLANTA BRAVES IN 2012 MLB ALL STAR GAME TONIGHT

Baseball’s best and brightest will converge upon Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City as the 2012 MLB All Star Game takes place tonight at the home of the Royals of the American League.  It’s set for 7:30 pm and will be televised on FOX.  

SHORTER UNIVERSITY ACCEPTED INTO NCCAA

Shorter University has been accepted as a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).  According to a Shorter sports release, the NCCAA has 112 member institutions that enroll more than 14,500 student-athletes.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET THIS EVENING

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening.  Commissioners will meet in a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  On the agenda – a memorandum of understanding with Samson Developers that could pave the way for the redevelopment of West Third Street.  Take a look at the Rome City Commission’s agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.
