ATLANTA BRAVES SALVAGE WIN IN SERIES WITH SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves avoided being swept by the San Francisco Giants with a 3-2 victory yesterday afternoon in the finale of the three game series between the teams at Turner Field.  Tim Hudson was the winning pitcher, holding the Giants to two runs over seven and a third innings.  Craig Kimbrel got the save.
The Braves got some big runs in yesterday’s game.

FLOYD COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO HOST RABIES VACCINATION CLINIC THIS SATURDAY

The Floyd County Health Department will conduct a rabies vaccination clinic this Saturday, July 21st from 1 pm until 3 pm at the health department at 16 East 12th Street.  The cost is just $10 per shot.  Dr. Richard Dixon with the East Rome Animal Clinic and Dr. Daniel Todd with the Mt. Berry Animal Clinic will administer the vaccinations, according to release from Floyd County Public Health.  The clinic is being sponsored by the health department and Floyd County Animal Control.

ROME BRAVES ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Rome Braves were off yesterday and will get back into action tonight in Savannah with a four game series against the Sand Gnats that will continue thru Sunday.  First pitch of tonight’s game is set for 7:05 pm at Savannah’s Grayson Stadium.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Rome Braves radio voice JB Smith will go on the air with the pre-game show at 6:50 pm.

GNTC LAUNCHES TWO NEW SPORTS

Georgia Northwestern Technical College has announced two new NJCAA sports set to begin this year.  Job openings are now available as the search is underway for golf and cheerleading coaches at the NJCAA Region XVII institution, according to a GNTC sports release.  Intercollegiate varsity cheerleading squads will begin this fall at GNTC.  Intercollegiate varsity men’s golf will begin competition in spring of 2013.  Learn more about tryout dates, locations and times on the athletics page at www.gntc.edu.

UNEMPLOYMENT UP IN JUNE FOR GEORGIA FOR FIRST INCREASE IN NEARLY A YEAR

The Georgia Department of Labor has announced that Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 9.0 percent in June, up from 8.9 percent in May, marking the first increase in nearly a year.  Georgia’s jobless rate stood at 9.9 percent in June 2011.

DOG DAYS LUNAR BIKE RIDE SET FOR FRIDAY NIGHT

The 18th annual Dog Days Lunar Bike Ride is set for this Friday night at Mount Berry Square Mall.  The event will be held from 10 pm until 1 am.  It is not a race of any kind and is open to all ages.  There will be pizza, watermelon, snacks and drinks.  Plus, a live DJ will provide entertainment.  The maximum registration price is $30 for an entire family (not including t-shirts).  For more information, visit www.cvca.org.

ATLANTA BRAVES LOSE EXTRA INNING BLOWOUT TO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves lost a wild extra inning game to the San Francisco Giants 9-4 last night at Turner Field.  The eleven inning game followed rain delay of about an hour and a half.

F&P GEORGIA TO EXPAND AGAIN, ADD 100 NEW JOBS

F&P Georgia has announced plans for yet another expansion.  The announcement was made at the Rome Floyd County Development Authority Meeting.  It is the company’s fifth major expansion in 11 years.  The machinery expansion will mean a $31 million capital investment and 100 new jobs.
