ATLANTA HAWKS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT AT HOME TO PHOENIX SUNS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks dropped their third straight at home to the Phoenix Suns 99-90 at the Philips Arena last night.  The loss leaves the Hawks with an 8-4 record at home and a 16-10 record overall so far for the 2011-2012 season.  The Hawks continue their current homestand with a match against the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Philips.

LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN MARCH 6TH PRIMARY

Today is the last day to register to vote in the March 6th presidential primary election.  Also in this election, local voters will decide on the proposed 2012 SPLOST and Sunday alcohol package sales.  Floyd County residents can register to vote at the elections office inside the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  For more information, call the elections office at (706) 291-5167 or visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.georgia.gov.  

SEARCH FOR MISSING WOMAN ENDS IN TRAGEDY OVER WEEKEND

The search for a missing Rome woman ended tragically over the weekend as her body was found at the scene of a wreck off the embankment of US Highway 411 in Bartow County.  Nancy Pension, age 43, had been missing since Thursday.  Pension had not been seen since she dropped her child off at Unity Christian School and headed to work in Kennesaw.  She was found dead at the site of the wreck on Saturday morning.  An investigation into the wreck continues.

COLLEGE HOOPS RADIO SCHEDULE

We’ll have Berry College men’s basketball tomorrow night on WLAQ AM 1410 and www.wlaq1410.com as the Vikings travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on Maryville College at 7:30 pm.  WLAQ AM 1410 will also provide coverage this Saturday as the Vikings and Lady Vikings host LaGrange at the Cage Center on the Berry College campus.  Tip off is set for 2 pm for the women and 4 pm for the men.  As with all our local sporting events, the games will be aired online at www.wlaq1410.com.

SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK OBSERVED THIS WEEK

This week, February 6th thru 10th, is Severe Weather Awareness Week.  Each day this week, a different topic related to severe weather will be highlighted.  
Today is Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio Day.  Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Scotty Hancock says, “Family Preparedness Day is a time for every family to plan and rehearse what they should do during the first 72-hours of any severe weather-related event or disaster.”

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TONIGHT

GIANTS TOP PATRIOTS IN SUPER BOWL 46

The New York Giants emerged as champs in Super Bowl 46 last night with a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots in Indianapolis.  Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning was named Super Bowl MVP; it was his second time to nab the honor.
