FLOYD COUNTY EMA OBSERVES NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

This month, September, is National Preparedness Month.  The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency is joining forces with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s Ready Georgia campaign to encourage Georgians to be prepared for potential emergencies.  

ROME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL KICKS OFF TONIGHT

The Rome International Film Festival gets underway tonight and continues thru Saturday night.  The opening night film is “American Songwriter”, which will be screened at the historic DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome at 7 pm and will be followed by an opening night gala at Swift and Finch on Broad Street.  
Films will be shown throughout the weekend at the DeSoto Theatre and at the Rome Area History Museum.  

ROME BRAVES TOP ASHEVILLE TOURISTS IN GAME ONE OF SALLY LEAGUE SOUTHERN DIVISION PLAYOFFS

The Rome Braves beat the Asheville Tourists 5-3 last night at State Mutual Stadium in game one of the South Atlantic League Southern Division playoffs.  
As JB indicated, the teams head to Asheville, North Carolina now for game two (and game three, if necessary).  Game two is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at Asheville’s McCormick Field.  A quick programming notice – the game will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ and www.wlaq1410.com, as we’ll have high school football on 95.7 FM The Ridge, your normal radio home for Rome Braves baseball.  

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS TO TAKE THE FIELD TOMORROW NIGHT

Tune in for the very first Northwest Georgia High School Football Game of the Week for 2012 on 95.7 FM The Ridge tomorrow night as the Armuchee Indians travel to Adairsville to take on the Tigers.  Matt Davis and Ian Griffin will bring you the play by play story of the game.  They’ll go on air with the pre-game at 7:15 pm.  Kick off is set for 7:30 pm.  The game will also be aired online at www.theridge957.com.  Stay tuned after the game for the High School Football Scoreboard Show brought to you by Rome Orthopaedic Clinic.  (Programming reminder for Rome Braves fans:  tomorrow night’s game two of the South Atlantic League Southern Division playoffs at Asheville will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ.)

ROMAN RUMBLE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HARBOR HO– USE

The 26th annual Roman Rumble 5K and 2 Mile Health Walk is set for Saturday, September 15th at 8 am at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome.  The event will once again this year serve as a benefit for Harbor House of Rome, a child advocacy agency.  
One of the events organizers, Scott Wheeler, anticipates a great event.

DEAL NABS WAIVER ON GAS REQUIREMENTS TO OFFER RELIEF IN THE WAKE OF SHORTAGES CA– USED BY HURRICANE ISAAC

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has honored a request from Georgia Governor Nathan Deal to temporarily waive environmental requirements for gasoline sold in Georgia to avoid a potential shortage after Hurricane Isaac caused supply disruptions.  

MINOR MASTERFUL IN ATLANTA BRAVES’ VICTORY OVER COLORADO ROCKIES AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Colorado Rockies 1-0 in game three of a four game series last night at Turner Field.  Braves starter Mike Minor got the win after allowing just one hit in seven innings of work.  Craig Kimbrel got the first multi-inning save of his career last night.  
The only run in last night’s game came for the Braves in the bottom of the fourth when Chipper Jones scored on a throwing error by Rockies shortstop Josh Rutledge.  

COLLEGE FOOTBALL ON THE RADIO THIS SATURDAY EVENING

Shorter University’s football Hawks will play their second game of the season this Saturday evening in Newberry, South Carolina against Newberry.  Kick off is set for 6:30 pm.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.
