PROTECT YOUR PETS FROM ABUNDANCE OF FLEAS AND TICKS BROUGHT IN BY WARM WEATHER

We may be getting a bit of a break from the heat right now, but with the warm temperatures this area experienced in recent days and a hot summer ahead, fleas and ticks are expected to abound in the coming months.  Dr. Dan Pate with the West Rome Animal Clinic says that ticks in particular pose health threats to your pets.  They can cause various diseases, such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.  Dr. Pate urges pet owners to make sure that those ticks don’t attach themselves to your dogs and cats.

FLOYD MEDICAL CENTER’S PALLIATIVE CARE PROGRAM RECEIVES LIVESTRONG GRANT

Floyd Medical Center’s Palliative Care program is among four programs in the southeastern United States to receive a $10,000 Livestrong Community Impact Project grant, according to an FMC media release.  Livestrong is the organization founded by cyclist Lance Armstrong to serve people living with cancer and to empower communities to take action against the world’s leading cause of death.

GEORGIA’S REVENUES UP BY FIVE PERCENT IN MARCH

Georgia’s net tax collections for March 2012 totaled $1.16 billion, an increase of $55 million or five percent compared to March 2011, according to a release from Governor Nathan Deal’s office.  At the close of the third quarter of the fiscal year, net revenue collections totaled $1.7 billion for an increase of $525 million or 4.7 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year.

WHITEFIELD DROPPING OUT OF SENATE RACE

Chad Whitefield has announced that he is dropping out of the race for State Senate. He is giving up his bid for the Senate in order to focus on a new business venture.  His company, Rome-based Advanced Rehabilitation Management Group, has entered into a joint venture opportunity in Florida and Virginia.  He expects a lot of travel with this new venture.

ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO HOUSTON ASTROS
