And just in case you missed high school baseball yesterday evening on WLAQ AM 1410, the Darlington Tigers defeated Mt. Zion 10-4 on Senior Night at Darlington.  The Tigers will play their last game of the regular season on Friday at Excel Christian.

STAGE BEING SET FOR CLOCKTOWER CLASSIC, MAKING FOR BUSY WEEKEND IN DOWNTOWN ROME

The stage is being set for the Clocktower Classic handcycling race.  Ann Hortman with the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau was a guest on Sports Talk Saturday with Matt D and Scott this past Saturday and said that this is the eighth year the handcycling race has been held in Rome.  She says that there are some new additions for the downtown criterium portion of the race on Saturday, April 28th.

MAXEY TO RUN FOR FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION

Larry Maxey has announced his intentions to run for the Floyd County Commission post 4 vacated by Eddie Lumsden.  Maxey is the president of Lakes Construction Company.  A special election will be held on July 31st to determine who will fill the post, which Lumsden left in March to run for State House District 11.

ATLANTA HAWKS TOP LA CLIPPERS AT PHILIPS

The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 109-102 last night at the Philips Arena.  The Hawks will close out the regular season at home tomorrow night against the Dallas Mavericks.  Tip off is set for 8 pm.  After that the Hawks will be NBA playoff-bound.

SHORTER TO HOST 2012 MID-SOUTH TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS AT NEWLY RENOVATED MADDOX TRACK AND BARRON STADIUM

Shorter University will play host to the 2012 Mid-South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the newly renovated Maddox Track and Historic Barron Stadium.  This is the first time that Shorter has ever hosted the championships, which are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, April 27th and 28th.  Shorter’s Hawks have their hopes set on nabbing their fifth consecutive conference championship, while the Lady Hawks will compete for their fourth straight conference championship.

ASTRONOMY DAY TO CAP OFF BUSY WEEK AT TELLUS M– USEUM IN CARTERSVILLE

The Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville will observe National Astronomy Day this Saturday, April 28th with a flurry of activities.  Marketing Director Joe Schulman invites the public to come out for 12 hours full of astronomy.  The event will be held from 10 am until 10 pm.

CANCER NAVIGATORS ANNOUNCES WINNERS IN ‘CAST OFF AGAINST CANCER’

Cancer Navigators has announced the winning crews in their Cast Off Against Cancer fund-raising campaign.  The campaign wrapped up this past Sunday with a celebration at the Harbin Clinic’s Tony E. Warren MD Cancer Center.
