ATLANTA HAWKS HOPE TO CONTINUE WINNING WAYS IN MILWAUKEE TONIGHT

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks hit the road to take on the Milwaukee Bucks tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Tip off is set for 8 pm.  The Hawks hope to continue the winning streak they experienced over the weekend with back-to-back-to-back wins over the New Jersey Nets, Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz.  They currently have a 30 win – 20 loss record so far for the 2011-2012 season.

SHORTER BASEBALL SWEEPS JOHNSON UNIVERSITY AT HOME, ON THE ROAD TO FACE BRYAN TODAY

In your local college baseball update, Shorter University swept a non-league double header with Johnson University yesterday at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.  The Hawks won game one 14-2 and the nightcap 15-0.  They’ll head to Tennessee for a non-league solo game this afternoon at 4 pm.

2012 SESSION OF GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WINDING DOWN

The 2012 session of the Georgia General Assembly is winding down and  enters its final days this week.  State Senator Barry Loudermilk says there are a few items of business still on the agenda of state legislators.  He says that there are a lot of bills that have passed the House that must pass the Senate and vice versa.  He anticipates a lot of meetings this week.

ROME FLOYD HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO HOST HIKE FOR HUMANITY THIS SATURDAY

The Habitat for Humanity of Rome and Floyd County will host their second annual Hike for Humanity at Berry College to help fund dream houses this Saturday, March 31st.  Registration for the event will be offered from 8 until 10 am.  It will be a family-friendly event, though small children will need some assistance.  Shuttles will be available to anyone needing assistance.  In addition, young children may walk for free with their parents (t-shirts will not be available for young children).  Participants are urged to get the support of their family, friends, co-workers and church members in the form of sponsorships with a minimum goal of $50.  The Skyliners Bluegrass Band will perform at Berry’s “House O’ Dreams” as part of the Hike.  For more information, call Habitat at (706) 378-0030.

BRAVES BACK IN ACTION TODAY AFTER DAY OFF YESTERDAY; JONES UNDERGOES KNEE SURGERY

In your Atlanta Braves Spring Training update, the Braves took the day off yesterday and return to action today in Port St. Lucie, Florida against the New York Mets.  First pitch is set for 1:10 pm.

BERRY COLLEGE SOFTBALL TO HOST COVENANT TODAY

College softball is on tap for today.  Berry College’s Lady Vikings will host Covenant in a double header at 3 pm at Berry’s South Ford Field.

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TOMORROW

The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session tomorrow.  They’ll convene in a caucus session at 4 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  Take a look at their agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

ATLANTA HAWKS CAP OFF WINNING WEEKEND WITH QUADRUPLE OT WIN OVER UTAH JAZZ AT PHILIPS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks capped off a busy weekend with a 139-133 quadruple overtime victory over the Utah Jazz last night at the Philips Arena.  It was a nice ending to what turned out to be a winning weekend for the Hawks, with a 95-92 victory in Washington DC over the Wizards on Saturday night and a 93-84 win at home over the New Jersey Nets on Friday night.  The Hawks will take a well-deserved night off tonight and get back into action tomorrow night in Milwaukee against the Bucks.  Tip off is set for 8 pm.
