ATLANTA HAWKS LOSE ONE, WIN ONE OVER THE WEEKEND; PREPARE TO FACE MILWAUKEE BUCKS

In NBA news, after a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia 76ers 90-76 on the road on Friday night, the Atlanta Hawks came back to take a 121-94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night on their home court at the Philips Arena.  Saturday night’s win improved the Hawks’ record to eight wins and one loss at home.  They have 12 wins and five losses overall for the 2011-2012 season.  They’ll be on the road to take on the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at 8 pm.

JOE PATERNO PASSES AWAY AT 85

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has passed away.  Affectionately known by fans as “JoePa”, Paterno died yesterday at the age of 85 due to complications with lung cancer treatment.  Paterno was fired from his head coach position with Penn State in November amid the sex abuse scandal involving former assistant Jerry Sandusky.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY’S NO. 1 HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED, BERRY LADY VIKES ON WLAQ THIS WEEKEND

It was a victorious night on the hill for Shorter University’s basketball teams last night.  Shorter’s Hawks proved why they are number one in the NAIA with a 74-65 win over No. 4 Southern Poly in front of a packed house at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre.  That was preceded by a 70-48 victory for Shorter’s Lady Hawks over Southern Poly.

WSB-TV NEWS ANCHOR TO SPEAK AT DARLINGTON SCHOOL’S CAREER DAY TODAY

Darlington School will host their Career Day today.  The event gets underway at 8:30 am with keynote speaker Justin Farmer.  Farmer is a WSB-TV news anchor who graduated from Darlington in 1987.  Will Farmer have some sage advice for those interested in entering into the field of broadcast journalism?  He says he intends to offer words of wisdom to students entering any career field.
Farmer, a native of Atlanta, anchors WSB-TV’s Channel 2 Action News at 5, Channel 2 Action News at 6 and the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS TO FACE NEW YORK GIANTS IN SUPER BOWL 46

The New England Patriots and the New York Giants will go head to head in this year’s Super Bowl.  The New England Patriots head to the big game after beating the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game in Foxboro, Massachusetts yesterday.  The New York Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in overtime in the NFC Championship Game in San Francisco last night.   The AFC Champion New England Patriots will face the NFC Champion New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 on February 5th in Indianapolis.

LOCAL TEA PARTY MEMBER IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR PRIMARY ELECTION

Voters in South Carolina will go to the polls tomorrow for the Republican primary election.  Rome Tea Party member Mike Morton is in the Palmetto State for the election.  He spoke to WLAQ’s Elizabeth Davis on Good Morning Rome on Thursday while in route to Charleston for a Tea Party Patriots leadership conference.  He also got to attend the CNN debate last night.  
Morton says that he supports Rick Santorum in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

NEW EXHIBIT TO HIGHLIGHT PHOTOMICOGRAPHY WINNERS AT TELLUS M– USEUM

A new exhibit opens at the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville today.  The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Exhibit features the work of winners of an annual international competition to identify the top images taken through a microscope.  Marketing Director Joe Schulman says Tellus is hosting the top 20 photomicrographs from the 2011 competition.

ATLANTA HAWKS ON THE ROAD TO FACE PHILADELPHIA 76ERS TONIGHT

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks will be on the road to take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at 7 pm.  The Hawks have had a pretty good start to the 2011-2012 season, which got underway nearly a month ago.  They have eleven wins and four losses overall so far this season.
