The undefeated Atlanta Falcons will return to action this Sunday after a bye week in the NFL’s seventh week of play.  The 6-0 Falcons will be looking for their seventh straight win as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.  Kick off is set for 1 pm.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s radio home for Atlanta Falcons football.

ISAKSON COMMENTS ON PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

The third and final debate between President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney is set for tonight at 9 pm Eastern at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.  The candidates are expected to discuss foreign policy in tonight’s debate.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TONIGHT

The Rome City Commission is scheduled to meet in regular session this evening.  They’ll gather for a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  Take a look at commissioners’ agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY TO PLAY THURSDAY NIGHT GAME THIS WEEK

In your local college football update, Shorter University won’t have to wait too much longer to face its next Gulf South Conference opponent.  The Hawks will host Valdosta State on Thursday night at 7:30 pm at Barron Stadium in downtown Rome.  It will be “Championship Thursday” for the Hawks as Shorter is set to honor its teams that won national and conference championships during the 2011-2012 athletic season.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Pre-game programming will begin with Hawk Talk at 6 pm, followed by the Coach Phil Jones Show at 6:30 pm.  The Killer B’s – Jim Bojo and Randy Bowen – will go on the air with the pre-game show live from Barron Stadium at 7 pm.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS HEADED FOR WORLD SERIES

In MLB playoff news, the San Francisco Giants are headed to the World Series after nabbing their third straight victory over the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in game seven of the National League Championship Series last night in San Francisco.  Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro was named the series MVP.  The Giants will go on to face the American League Champion Detroit Tigers in the Fall Classic.  The 2012 World Series will get underway with game one tomorrow night at 8 pm at San Francisco’s AT&T Park.
