GEORGIA BEATS GEORGIA TECH IN THANKSGIVING WEEKEND RIVALRY; ACC/SEC CHAMPIONSHIP TIME IS NEAR!!

The Georgia Bulldogs beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 42-10 at UGA’s Sanford Stadium this past Saturday in the annual Thanksgiving weekend rivalry between the teams.  The loss left the Yellow Jackets with an even 6-6 record for 2012 (and they are 5-3 in the ACC).  The Jackets will take on the Florida State Seminoles in the ACC Championship Game this Saturday night at 8 pm in Charlotte, NC.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410, Rome’s radio home for Georgia Tech football.

It’s time for shoppers to hit the stores (or the internet, as the case may be) in search of that perfect Christmas gift!  The holiday shopping season officially kicks off with Black Friday today and Small Business Saturday tomorrow.  And, of course, the majority of that shopping will be for the kiddos out there.  So just what are the hottest toys this holiday season?  Marianne Szymanski, founder of TOY TIPS Research Institute, says that consumers shouldn’t be looking for the hottest toy.  Rather, they should be looking for the toys that will actually be used.

Are the natives getting restless?  Looking for a fun family outing over the Thanksgiving weekend?  Consider a trip to the Tellus:  Northwest Georgia Science Museum in Cartersville.  Marketing director Joe Schulman says that the museum has a lot to offer holiday visitors, including numerous galleries and exhibits and a planetarium with a revolving list of shows.

ANNUAL GEORGIA/GEORGIA TECH RIVALRY TO BE REVIVED ON SATURDAY IN ATHENS

It’s Thanksgiving weekend – here in the state of Georgia, that means it’s time for the revival of the annual rivalry between Georgia and Georgia Tech!  The battle to find out who will run this state in 2012 is set for tomorrow at noon at Sanford Stadium on the UGA campus in Athens.  The game will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s radio home for Georgia Tech football.  We’ll join pre-game programming in progress at 11 am, following an abbreviated edition of Sports Talk Saturday with Matt D and Scott (that will begin at 10 am, by the way).

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY TRAVEL PERIOD CONTINUES

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period continues.  The 102-hour period officially began on Wednesday evening at 6 pm and ends at midnight on Sunday, November 25th.  There has been one fatality on Georgia’s roads so far this holiday travel period.  It was reported by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.  The Georgia State Patrol reported some 168 traffic crashes with 65 injuries as of early this morning.

UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN METRO ROME, UNCHANGED IN NWGA IN OCTOBER

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the preliminary unemployment rate for metro Rome declined to 9.5 percent in October, down from 9.6 percent in September.  Metro Rome’s jobless rate stood at 11.3 percent in October 2011.

ATLANTA FALCONS LOOKING FOR WIN NUMBER 10 THIS SUNDAY; NFL THANKSGIVING UPDATE

Tune in this Sunday afternoon for Atlanta Falcons football on 95.7 FM The Ridge.  The Falcons currently boast a 9-1 record so far for the 2012 season and will be in search of win number 10 as they travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers.  Kick off is set for 1 pm.  Pre-game programming will begin at 11 am.
