MUSEUM OF FLIGHT TO HOST 1950’S ‘SOCK HOP’ HANGAR DANCE IN SEPTEMBER

Written by Matt Davis on July 11, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

You are invited to take a step back in time and support the preservation of aviation history on the evening of Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at the Museum of Flight’s second annual Hangar Dance.  This year’s event will take on a 1950’s “Sock Hop” theme.  It is scheduled to take place from 7 pm until 10 pm in the hangar that the museum shares with Tiger Flight at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport.

Matt DeVille, Development Director for the Museum of Flight, anticipates a great night of entertainment featuring live music from the Beaters, dancing and dining amid historic aircraft.  Tickets are $40 each.

If you plan to attend the event, be sure to dress in your best attire from the 1950s.  Prizes will be awarded to the best era-appropriate costume.

DeVille adds that link to purchase tickets to the Museum of Flight’s 1950s Hangar “Sock Hop” Dance is available on the organization’s website at www.mofts.org.

According to their mission statement, the goal of the Museum of Flight is to raise the public’s awareness of aviation through the flight of historical aircraft while supporting area children’s hospitals.  DeVille says that supporters of the organization are bound together by their love of flight.

The museum is open to visitors every Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm; it is closed on Mondays.  For more information about becoming a volunteer with the organization, call (423) 228-2FLY.  DeVille additionally encourages locals to ‘like’ the Museum of Flight on Facebook to stay updated on museum happenings.
