MUSEUM OF FLIGHT SEEKS FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF ITS MISSION TO BRING AN F-14 TOMCAT TO ROME

Written by Matt Davis on January 9, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

A group of aviation enthusiasts seeks local support of their current mission to bring an F-14 Tomcat to Rome.

The Museum of Flight, based out of Rome’s Russell Regional Airport, has acquired the historic aircraft from the National Naval Aviation Museum.  The next step is to get the plane here, and that will take a substantial amount of financial support from the public.

Pete O’Hare, board member for the museum, says that the F-14 Tomcat, currently housed in Richmond, Virginia, is among the few of this particular aircraft still in existence.

Fees for the transport of the plane from Richmond to Rome are expected to total $40,000, adds O’Hare, who hopes to soon raise enough funds to add the Tomcat to the museum’s collection, which already boasts the only remaining BTD-1 Destroyer still in existence.

For more information, as well as a link to a Go Fund Me page for the project, may be found on the museum’s website at www.mofts.org.  You may also call the museum to learn more at (423) 228-2FLY.
