LOCALS PROVIDE RELIEF TO THOSE AFFECTED BY HARVEY

Written by Matt Davis on August 29, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

Romans are among many people nationwide expressing an outpouring of support for those affected by Hurricane Harvey (now Tropical Storm Harvey) in Texas and the Gulf Coast.

If you are among those who would like to support disaster relief efforts, you can make a donation to the American Red Cross online at www.redcross.org, via phone at 1-800-RED-CROSS or by texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.  The Northwest Georgia chapter of the Red Cross has sent four volunteers, along with its locally based Emergency Response Vehicle, to assist with relief efforts in the affected area.

The Museum of Flight based out of the Russell Regional Airport is another local organization seeking to provide relief to storm victims.  A number of museum members are bound for Texas, armed with a stockpile of supplies such as bottled water, nonperishable food, blankets and more.  Students from Elm Street Elementary School provided a helping hand towards this effort on Monday.  Those wishing to donate items for the delivery are asked to take them to the museum during regular business hours.  For more information, search for Museum of Flight on Facebook.
