LOCAL TEA PARTY MEMBER IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR PRIMARY ELECTION

Written by Matt Davis on January 20, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

Voters in South Carolina will go to the polls tomorrow for the Republican primary election.  Rome Tea Party member Mike Morton is in the Palmetto State for the election.  He spoke to WLAQ’s Elizabeth Davis on Good Morning Rome on Thursday while in route to Charleston for a Tea Party Patriots leadership conference.  He also got to attend the CNN debate last night.
Morton says that he supports Rick Santorum in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

One of Georgia’s own, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, could see a spike in the polls as the campaign trail moves south.  Morton says that there are a few challenges that Gingrich faces, however.  Morton definitely expects backlash concerning an interview with Gingrich’s second wife that made headlines yesterday.

Mitt Romney was the front runner in Iowa and in New Hampshire.  There is some speculation that if he wins again in South Carolina, it may be over for other candidates.  Morton says he doesn’t think so.

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry has already dropped out of the race, ahead of the South Carolina primary.  He announced his decision to do so yesterday and said he is endorsing Newt Gingrich.
