LOCAL STATE FARM AGENT TERRY SIMMONS TO BE HONOREE AT 4TH ANNUAL HEART OF THE COMMUNITY WALK THIS SATURDAY

Written by Matt Davis on February 21, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

The 4th annual Heart of the Community Walk is set for this Saturday, February 25th in downtown Rome.  Pre-walk festivities will be held at 9:30 am at Citizens First Bank, with the walk set to begin at 10 am.

Local State Farm agent Terry Simmons will be the honoree for this year’s walk.  Simmons suffered a “silent” heart attack in 1997 and had more heart troubles in 2005 when an exploratory cath revealed that he had four blockages in his heart.

Simmons, who was a guest on WLAQ AM 1410’s Good Morning Rome on Monday, says it’s important to get checked out by your doctor regularly in order to assure a clean bill of health.  He also says that he’s learned that there are some other things you can do to stay heart healthy, including eating right and exercising regularly.

The walk previously benefited the American Heart Association and now serves as a fund-raiser for the Heart of the Community Foundation.  Money raised from the 2012 walk will be used to purchase signage and mile markers for Rome’s Jackson Hill Recreational Trail and for the creation of an additional trail to link downtown Rome with Summerville Park, Redmond Regional Medical Center and Berry College, according to a Heart of the Community Foundation release.

There is no fee to participate in Saturday’s walk; however, participants are asked to raise funds prior to the walk to turn in on the day of the event.
