Written by Matt Davis on May 11, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

Memorial Day is Monday, May 29th.  The local observation of Memorial Day will begin two weeks from today with special displays at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds to ‘remember those who gave all’.  The five-day tribute will open to the public on Thursday, May 25th and will remain on display through Memorial Day.  It is being organized by the Americanism Committee of the Exchange Club of Rome.

Bill King, event organizer, anticipates an exciting five days featuring special exhibitors to include Military Collectibles of McDonough, Georgia, Georgia’s Fallen Heroes Wall of Honor from Manchester, Georgia and the Rome-based Duke Museum of Military History.

The Rome Exchange Club’s Tomb of the Unknowns will also be on display at the event.  Hours are 9:30 am until 7 pm on Thursday, May 25th through Saturday, May 27th, 1 pm until 5 pm on Sunday, May 28th and from 9 am until 2 pm on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th.

A special Memorial Day ceremony has been planned for 11 am on Monday, May 29th to which the public is invited, states King.  That will be preceded by a 10:30 am concert from the Roman Festival Brass.

King attests that it is important to remember the true purpose of Memorial Day – to honor those who gave their very lives serving our country.

Admission to the 2017 Memorial Day Activities on the fairgrounds is free of charge, as is parking.  Vending will also be available.
