Written by Matt Davis on June 15, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

Local author Mike Ragland has been nominated for Georgia Author of the Year in the First Novel category by the Georgia Writer’s Association.   The winner will be announced at a special ceremony at Kennesaw State University tomorrow (Saturday) night.   Ragland’s first novel, Bertha, is based on a true story.  It is the story of Bertha Gossett Hill of Cherokee County, Alabama, who was the focus of a murder investigation after her parents and husband died within a year of each other.  The novel covers the events that occurred from inquiry all the way to the final trial and takes place in Floyd County in the 1940s to 1960s.

Ragland says that Bertha is still experiencing great success.

He indicates that Bertha is available at various locations, including Dogwood Books and Antiques on Broad Street in downtown Rome, Barnes and Noble and many other booksellers.
