Independence Day festivities got underway early in Northwest Georgia with special events over the weekend that included fireworks in Cave Spring and the annual Independence Day Celebration in Lindale.

There will plenty for area residents to do when the 4th of July actually arrives.  Activities will include a parade and classic car cruise-in in Cave Spring along with a fireworks display at Ridgeferry Park in Rome.

Cave Spring’s annual Independence Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 9 am this Wednesday morning, states Billy Wayne Abernathy with the Cave Spring Historical Society.

Fellow society member Callie Fricks encourages public participation in the parade, whether you walk it or ride in it.

Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, with assistance from Parker Systems, will present a fireworks display this Wednesday evening in Ridgeferry Park.  The park will open to the public at 3 pm.  There will be a Kids Zone at which kids may play all day with the purchase of $5 armbands.  Kevin Cowling, director of parks and rec, says that the event will also feature live music and games as attendees await the fireworks.

For additional details about the “Patriotic Party in the Park”, visit the parks and rec website at www.rfpra.com.
