I-85 EXPECTED TO OPEN AT LEAST BY MORNING RUSH HOUR ON MONDAY

Written by Matt Davis on May 11, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

The portion of I-85 that has been closed since March 30th due to a fire and subsequent bridge collapse is slated to re-open at least by morning rush hour on Monday, Governor Nathan Deal announced on Wednesday along with Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry and State Transportation Board Chair Robert L. Brown Jr.

This new opening date is nearly two weeks earlier than the GDOT’s most recent commitment of Memorial Day weekend and five weeks ahead of the original projected opening of June 15th.

Transportation officials anticipate that the interstate could re-open as soon as this weekend, if the weather permits workers to complete the job.

Interested parties can get updates on the re-opening of I-85 online at www.I85rebuild.org or www.dot.ga.gov.
