September is Literacy Month.  September 8th is International Literacy Day.  Congress and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal have issued resolutions in support of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week for September 10th thru 16th, 2012.  Georgia Northwestern Technical College, the largest Adult Education program provider in northwest Georgia, will emphasize its role in raising the level of educational attainment in the adult population this month, according to a GNTC release.

Susan Hackney, vice president of Adult Education at GNTC, states that approximately 1.5 million Georgia adults age 25 and older have never completed high school, and younger adults continue to leave school without graduating.

GNTC’s Adult Education Program provides educational opportunities to adults whose schooling was interrupted in earlier years.

As a part of Literacy Month, adult education centers across northwest Georgia will offer a free GED practice test during the week of September 10th thru 14th.  For more information about GNTC’s Adult Education centers, visit www.gntc.edu or call Susan Hackney in Rome at (706) 295-6972 or Jim Fowler in Rock Springs at (706) 764-3564.
