GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY BEGINS THEIR WORK UNDER THE GOLD DOME FOR 2012 TODAY

Written by Matt Davis on January 9, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

The 2012 session of the Georgia General Assembly gets underway today under the Gold Dome (the State Capitol) in Atlanta.  State Senator Barry Loudermilk said in an interview last week on WLAQ AM 1410’s Good Morning Rome that like last year, he believes tax reform will be a major focus of state legislators this year.  He also expects the T-SPLOST will continue to be a topic of discussion.  Loudermilk anticipates that the budget and education will also be important items of business for state legislators in 2012.

In other news involving area legislators, it was announced late last week that State Representative Katie Dempsey has been named the new Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services by the Committee on Assignments.

According to a media release from the Georgia House of Representatives, as chair of an appropriations subcommittee, Dempsey also serves as vice chair of the whole House Appropriations Committee.  She will also continue serving as a member of the following committees:  Economic Development and Tourism; Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications; Health and Human Services; Rules and as vice-chairman for Higher Education.
