Have you yet to dispose of your Christmas tree?  Mary Hardin Thornton, director of Keep Rome Floyd Beautiful, reminds you to “Bring One for the Chipper”!  Christmas trees will be accepted in the parking lot of Home Depot on Hicks Drive this Saturday, January 7th from 10 am until noon as part of the 26th annual Bring One for the Chipper tree recycling event.

Thornton muses that trees haven’t actually been chipped in years.  These days, they are commonly used as wildlife habitats and as mulch.

In exchange for their Christmas trees, disposees will be given seed packets or tree seedlings, courtesy of the Georgia Forestry Commission.  Thornton says that she and her assistants will be present to accept trees on Saturday,  regardless of the weather conditions.

For more information about this year’s Bring One for the Chipper event, call Keep Rome Floyd Beautiful at (706) 236-4456.

KRFB is also teaming up with the Coosa River Basin Initiative to present the 11th annual Polar Bear Paddle on Saturday, January 14th.  The six-mile paddle trip down the Etowah River will depart from Grizzard Park and end at Heritage Park in downtown Rome.  For more details and to register, visit www.coosa.org.
