FLOYD COUNTY VOTERS TO WEIGH IN ON SPLOST ON MARCH 6TH

Written by Matt Davis on February 23, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

Super Tuesday is right around the corner. March 6th is the day that Georgia voters will go to the polls (along with voters in other states) for the presidential preference primary election.  In addition, Floyd County voters will weigh in on the proposed 2012 SPLOST.  Floyd County Manager Blaine Williams and Rome City Manager John Bennett discussed the SPLOST on WLAQ AM 1410’s Good Morning Rome on Wednesday.

Williams says the 2012 SPLOST is basically an extension of the current one cent sales tax.

Bennett says that the 2012 SPLOST will be used for projects such as maintenance of city and county facilities and much needed paving of local roads, things for which funding has been difficult to find with the current economic challenges.

Also on Super Tuesday (March 6th), Rome City voters will decide whether or not to allow for Sunday alcohol package sales.

Advance voting is already underway for the March 6th primary.  For more information, call the Floyd County Elections office at (706) 291-5167.
