Written by Matt Davis on February 21, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

Northwest Georgia is in the midst of a Flash Flood Watch through 7 pm this evening, according to the National Weather Service.  A Flood Warning is in effect for a number of area waterways through Friday morning.

A number of roads have been closed around Floyd County (or warnings about high water have been posted) due to flooding. The list includes the following, according to the Emergency Management Agency:

Gaines Loop Road – closed

Burt Road – high water

Moran Lake Road – high water

Horseleg Creek Road – lower section near bypass closed

Dugger Drive – closed

Thomas Bluff Road – closed

Silver Hill Road – closed

Little Texas Valley Road – closed near single lane bridge

Collier Road – closed

Plemmons Road – high water

Just under three and a half inches of rain has been reported at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport from Tuesday morning through this morning.

A 90 percent chance of showers, possibly a thunderstorm, is in the forecast for today with highs in the upper 50s.  It appears that the Greater Rome area will finally get a break from rain on Sunday.

Darlington School is operating on a two hour delay today.  A number of the Floyd County schools’ bus routes have been altered by the weather; check the system’s social media for updates.  Chattooga County will delay opening by two hours today.
