FIRE FLY FLING, ELLEN AXSON WILSON ART WALK TO HIGHLIGHT BUSY SPRING FOR RACA
The Rome Area Council for the Arts is looking forward to a flurry of activity this spring. It will all kick off on Friday night with the 6th annual Fire Fly Fling highlighting the rivers and the arts in downtown Rome. Tickets are sold out, according to RACA director Mandy Maloney, who anticipates great views and great times on the Third Avenue parking deck.
Maloney recommends that interested parties get their tickets well in advance for next year’s Fire Fly Fling. She hopes the event will be held in a bigger venue in 2018 to accommodate more attendees.
Saturday, May 6th is a date that you’ll want to mark on your calendar. The annual Ellen Axson Wilson Art Walk is scheduled for that day; it’s a part of the inaugural Downtown Saturday street festival to be hosted by Rome’s Downtown Development Authority that will also include the Rome International Festival. Maloney advises those who plan to attend to have their wallets handy as an abundance of local and regional artists will be selling their wares at the event.
The Keys to Rome project will also be unveiled that day. The project is a collaborative effort of Turn Your Back on Hate, the City of Rome and RACA. Pianos have been transformed into works of art and will be placed around downtown for folks to enjoy, states Maloney.
