Three teachers have been selected as finalists for the 2013 Teacher of the Year recognition program for the Floyd County Schools.  According to a release from the school system, the finalists are:  Kim Baker, a middle grades teacher at the Floyd County Education Center; Allison Goggans, a history teacher at Pepperell High School; and Shannon Pollitz, an eighth-grade gifted language arts teacher at Pepperell Middle School.

The finalists were chosen by a review committee from the Rome/Floyd Retired Educators Association.  The selections were made from written applications submitted by the teacher of the year representatives from each school in the Floyd County School System.  Questions featured in the application were taken from the Georgia “Teacher of the Year” application form.  The three top teachers will continue in the selection process to determine who will be the 2013 Floyd County Schools Teacher of the Year.  The process will include a personal interview and a classroom observation of each teacher working with students. The interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th at the Floyd County Board of Education office on Riverside Parkway.  The selection process will conclude the following Tuesday, September 25th with classroom observations.  Finalists will be evaluated by a selection committee comprised of members of the Rome/Floyd Retired Teachers Association.

The 2013 Floyd County Schools Teacher of the Year will be honored during the regular monthly meeting of the Floyd County Board of Education on October 16th at 7 pm.  The Floyd County Teacher of the Year program is sponsored by the Northwest Georgia Credit Union.
