FEBRUARY IS TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION MONTH

Written by Matt Davis on February 6, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, and the Hospitality House for Women, Inc. is doing their part locally in order to raise awareness on the issue of teen dating violence.

Erin deMesquita, Community Outreach Coordinator, says that representatives from her organization will spend a large portion of this month educating local youth about healthy relationships.  Participants will also learn the signs of an unhealthy relationship in order to (hopefully) prevent such relationships from potentially turning violent.

One in three teens are impacted by dating violence, according to deMesquita, who adds that girls ages 16-24 are most vulnerable.

Proclamations will be read next week by the Rome City and Floyd County Commissions to declare this month as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, says deMesquita.  The Hospitality House for Women, Inc. is teaming with the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia to make the observation locally.
