The hunt for an escaped convict that started around lunchtime, continued through the day and into the evening finally resulted in his capture late Monday night.

Carrie Edge, Public Information Officer with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, has confirmed that Dustin Earl Cotton, age 26 and of a Southern Street address, is in custody.  He was discovered on the Etowah River off Glenn Milner Boulevard around 10 pm.

According to reports from the Floyd County Police, Cotton escaped from the Floyd County Courthouse at 11:58 am.  The subsequent search for the man involved all local law enforcement agencies and was even aided by a Georgia State Patrol helicopter.

The FCPD posted a statement on Cotton’s capture via Facebook on Monday night, thanking the public for tips that led to his apprehension.
