Today is election day – the date of the big primary election in Georgia.  Voters will determine the fate of the transportation referendum, or T-SPLOST.  The one-cent sales tax is up for a vote on a regional basis.  Floyd County voters will decide who will fill the unexpired terms of Eddie Lumsden and Chad Whitefield on the Floyd County Commission.  Republicans Nathan Roberts and Rhonda Wallace are seeking the Post 1 seat that was held by Whitefield, while Jerry Lee and Larry Maxey, also Republicans, are seeking the Post 4 seat that was held by Lumsden.  Incumbent Garry Fricks and Roger Wade, both Republicans, are running for the Post 2 seat on the Floyd County Commission.  The winner of that race will face Democrat Gary D. Harrell in the fall.  Three Republicans are vying for State Senate District 52, including David Doss, Chuck Hufstetler and Hayden Collins.  If necessary, a run off election will be held in that race on August 21st.

Polls open at 7 am and remain open until 7 pm.  We’ll have election results on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s station for talk and information.  We’ll periodically interrupt this evening’s Atlanta Braves/Miami Marlins game to bring you those reports.  Results will also be posted online at www.wlaq1410.com and www.theridge957.com.
