State Representative Katie Dempsey of Rome has been named the recipient of The David Levine Legislative Award presented by members of the Georgia Council on Aging from the Georgia Gerontology Society, Inc., according to a release from the Georgia House of Representatives.

Dempsey states, “ I am truly honored to receive The David Levine Legislative Award.  I am thankful for this recognition by the Georgia Gerontology Society and the Georgia Council on Aging for my work with Georgia’s older adults, appropriations, and Georgia’s Family Care Act.”

The David Levine Award was established in 1993 and is given to the legislator who has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation that improves the quality of life for older adults.  The award recipient has also shown consistent support on aging issues and has been willing to listen to the concerns of Georgia’s elderly.  The award was recently named to honor Dr. David L. Levine, who devoted his adult life to serving as an advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves.
