Attention, local bands!! The deadline for entries into the 3rd annual 95.7 FM The Ridge/Rome News-Tribune Battle of the Bands has been extended.  Local bands now have until Friday, March 2nd to enter the contest by submitting an mp3 of their best song, a short bio and contact information to mattd@theridge957.com.

Matt Davis with 95.7 FM The Ridge says that the deadline has been extended in order to ensure that local bands have ample time to get their entries in and participate in the contest.

95.7 FM The Ridge and the Rome News-Tribune are partnering with the Cedartown Performing Arts Center for the annual “Battle of the Bands” Contest.

Upon receipt of entries, contest judges will listen to the bands’ music and choose 20 bands to participate in a live, on-air contest.  The top 20 bands will be announced on 95.7 FM The Ridge’s “Matt D and Mullins in the Morning” on March 5th.  Bands selected for the on-air contest will have their songs played on-air on the morning show, as well as during the Northwest Georgia Music Hour (which can be heard on Wednesdays at noon on 95.7 FM The Ridge).  Fans can vote online to vote for their favorite band from March 5th  thru March 16th at www.rn-t.com.  The top five vote-recipients will perform at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center on March 31st before a Judges Panel and a live audience.  A People’s Choice Award will be bestowed upon the band that receives the most online votes.  The overall winner of the contest will be decided upon by the Judges Panel on the night of the event.  The People’s Choice and the Judges’ Choice winners will receive an “Evening Recording with Shane West”, courtesy of Stephens’ Music Company in Rome, as well as an opportunity to be the ‘opening act’ for one of the Cedartown Performing Arts Center’s “Legends in Concert Series” events.

Tickets for the event go on sale March 19th and can be purchased online at www.cedartownshows.com, by phone at (770) 748-4168 or at the box office at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center at 205 East Avenue in Cedartown.

Proceeds from the Battle of the Bands will benefit the Magnolia Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Rome under the umbrella of the Rome-Floyd Cancer Coalition.  The charitable organization funds colonoscopies, preparation and medications necessary to offer free screenings for high risk, underserved and uninsured patients in Chattooga, Floyd and Polk Counties.
