CULBERSON DOES IT AGAIN AS BRAVES WALK-OFF A WINNER OVER NATS

Written by Matt Davis on June 4, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Braves to take the series 3-1.

Rome native Charlie Culberson came through once again for Atlanta with a game-winning, two-run homer in the ninth inning.  It was his second pinch-hit, walk-off home run of this homestand.

Dansby Swanson also homered for Atlanta; his solo shot tied the game in the bottom of the seventh.  He crossed home plate on Culberson’s game-winning bomb in the ninth.

Thus ends an eight game homestand that left the Braves with five wins and three losses.  Atlanta currently leads the National League East standings by a game and a half over Washington.

The Braves will be in California for their next six games.  The road trip will begin with a series in San Diego against the Padres.  Tonight’s series opener is slated to begin at 10:10 pm Eastern at Petco Park.  It will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 8:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves picked up a 5-3 victory over the Columbia Fireflies on Sunday at State Mutual Stadium.  Rome is off today.
