FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOLS – STATUS OF SCHOOL EVENTS
Cancelled events include:
- The Floyd County Association for Academic Excellence meeting at 6:00 p.m. The event was to include the Middle School Oratorical Contest, The event will be reschedule for next Thursday January 24th at 6:00 pm at the central office building.
- After-school tutoring for McKinney-Vento program students will not be held today.
- The Pepperell Elementary School Spelling Bee planned for Friday morning has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 22, at 9:00 a.m.
The changes were made by the school or a sponsoring organization. It is not an indication of a possible cancellation of school tomorrow. SHORTER UNIVERSITY CAMP– USES CLOSING
All Shorter University campuses will be closing at 4 p.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 17) due to inclement weather.
Evening classes and activities are canceled at all campuses.
TRION CITY SCHOOLS DELAY OPENING TOMORROW
Trion City Schools will open two hours later than usual on Friday.
EXCHANGE CLUB OF ROME POSTPONES ORIENTATION MEETING
Because of the threat of inclement weather and adverse driving conditions, the Exchange Club of Rome has postponed the new member orientation meeting originally scheduled for this evening until a later date.
COALITION FOR THE RIGHT ROAD MEETING CANCELLED
The meeting to discuss the proposed Hwy 411 Connector scheduled to take place at the Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville has been cancelled.
CIVIL WAR SYMPOSIUM POSTPONED
ROME, GA. — The Civil War Symposium scheduled for tonight at the Rome – Floyd County Library has been postponed due to the risk of inclement weather throughout Rome and Floyd County.
Kenneth Studdard, a local historian of Rome, Ga., will now present his symposium on Thursday, January 24 in the Coosa Room of the library at 6:30pm. His lecture is titled “Of Valor and Suffering: A Narrative of Rome in ‘The War.'”
The series is sponsored by the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau and hosted by the Rome – Floyd County Library.

GEORGIA NORTHWESTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE:
All Georgia Northwestern Technical College campuses will close today at 2:00 p.m. All evening classes have been canceled.
No decisions regarding Friday have been made at this time.
ROME AREA HISTORY M– USEUM:
Due to snowy and icy weather conditions, the Rome Area History Museum will close at 2:00 P.M. today and reopen tomorrow at Noon.
Also, the Rodoph Shalom synagogue tour and talk with Lyons Heyman that was scheduled for 6:00 P.M. this evening has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for the last week of February.
